NEW! The Revolutionary Training Tool For Cataract Surgery

FCI Ophthalmics

June, 2011, Marshfield Hills, MA – The Kitaro DryLab and WetLab Kits are revolutionary educational and training tools for cataract surgery. These innovative kits offer realistic surgical simulation through specially designed synthetic materials that give the look and feel of the natural tissue of the human eye.

The Kitaro DryLab is designed to teach and practice the basic techniques in phacoemulsification at the desk without complicated preparation and expensive consumable goods such as those needed for porcine wet labs. Surgeons can practice repeatedly the basic instrument manipulation and nuclear segmentation techniques with 3 artificial nuclei for divide & conquer, stop & chop, and phaco chop by dividing and rotating them using the supplied mock instruments. It is also possible to practice self-sealing wound construction and suturing with the special resin sheet which offers a similar feeling to that of cutting the human sclerocornea.

The Kitaro WetLab is a tool designed to simulate phacoemulsification using a phaco machine under a microscope in an operating room or wet lab, and offers an experience similar to working on a human eye. Surgeons can master their surgical skills by practicing almost all steps in phaco-emulsification such as CCC, all nuclear segmentation techniques, and even IOL insertion. One can also practice intraoperative complication management in the event of a posterior capsule rupture and dropped nucleus.

The Kitaro WetLab is an all-in-one surgical simulator kit that includes nearly everything necessary including an oculomotor device that generates eye movements during manipulation, an artificial face with soft eyelids, mock instruments, an irrigation bag (uses tap water), and drain system. Also included in the kit are some artificial corneas with the same thickness as human corneas (500 um thick at the center and 700 um thick at the periphery). Available separately, is a sampling of high quality artificial cataract lenses consisting of the nucleus, cortex, anterior capsule film and posterior capsule film for practicing procedures such as CCC, hydrodissection, all nuclear segmentation techniques, emulsification and aspiration of nuclear fragments, epinucleus removal and IOL insertion.

Each kit comes assembled in a handy carrying case and any additional or replacement items may be ordered as needed. Call FCI Ophthalmics today and receive a 10% discount on the first kit.
