A team of researchers from the University of Rochester are exploring the use of stem cells to replace damaged cells in the corneal endothelium, ultimately raising the possibility of restoring vision without the need for transplants.
The research team received recently received a $75,000 University Research Award to support their work. Through a mouse model, they will reportedly work to identify the right type of stem cells that could be stimulated to migrate from the outer edges of the cornea into the endothelium to repair damage.
