USC Roski Eye Institute Co-Director Named NAI Fellow

Dr. Mark S. Humayun, co-director of the University of Southern California (USC) Roski Eye Institute and director of the USC Institute for Biomedical Therapeutics, was recently elected to the 2016 Fellows Program of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) — reportedly the highest professional distinction accorded solely to academic inventors.

Humayun is reportedly most recognized as a co-creator of the Argus II retinal prosthesis system — also known as the "bionic eye — that allows those with certain blinding diseases to regain some useful vision. Earlier this year, Humayun received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation from President Barack Obama.
