Three New Combined Product Offerings Deliver Workflow Efficiencies and Clinical Benefits to the Practice
DUBLIN, CA (October 24, 2009) – AAO Booth #3149 – Carl Zeiss Meditec unveiled its new suite
of treatment workflow and data management solutions today at the American Academy of
Ophthalmology (AAO) Annual Meeting in San Francisco. These new diagnostic and surgical
offerings are designed to work together to improve productivity, workflow and clinical outcomes that are critical in today’s healthcare environment.
Carl Zeiss Solutions include:
- ZEISS Ophthalmic Data Management Solution —a completely integrated platform that
stores all diagnostic patient data, providing a paperless diagnostic and surgical workflow.
- ZEISS Toric Solution—a combination of tools that allow physicians to perform cataract
surgery more efficiently and to implant and align toric lenses faster and easier.
- ZEISS Refractive Laser Solution—the most comprehensive range of applications as
well as fully integrated flow of data and patient handling.
“Building on Carl Zeiss Meditec’s trusted portfolio of advanced technologies that are in more than 95 percent of ophthalmic practices in the U.S., we are introducing a completely new concept at this year’s AAO meeting,” said Dr. Michael Kaschke, President and CEO of Carl Zeiss Meditec. “Our Solutions are designed to help ophthalmologists in today’s healthcare environment to achieve greater workflow efficiencies while obtaining superior clinical results through better combination and integration of their diagnostic and treatment modalities.”
ZEISS Ophthalmic Data Management Solution
The first fully integrated platform that connects all ophthalmic systems and links diagnostic and surgery devices, the ZEISS Ophthalmic Data Management Solution includes the FORUM eye care data management system, that has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the CALLISTO eye® OR management system.
FORUM is an advanced, highly efficient data management solution for streamlining, centralizing and viewing the vast amount of clinical data generated by ophthalmic instruments. Providing a complete, centralized paperless record of patients’ diagnostic data, history and demographics, FORUM improves practice workflow and offers a better means for patient education. FORUM’s three modular components include FORUM Archive, FORUM Viewer and FORUM EMR Gateway, which can be tailored to meet the needs of ophthalmic practices and surgery centers of any size.
“Since implementing FORUM in my practice just a little more than a month ago, I have already realized a significant time savings, due to the efficiencies that this data management system has brought to my practice,” said Michael Jacobs, MD of Athens Eye Associates. “FORUM has improved my ability to assess a patient over time because not only do I have all the information on the spot, but I can view the information simultaneously. And, the ability to view these images with my patients allows me to educate them about their disease, which I believe will lead to better compliance.“
One example of the ZEISS Ophthalmic Data Management Solution features the newly introduced
Retina Workstation. It integrates the Cirrus™ HD-OCT (Model 4000 and the new Model 400) as
well as the VISUCAM ™ fundus camera along with the FORUM Archive and Viewer. The Retina
Workstation enables a complete retinal examination in one location, without the need for multiple data entry or paper print-outs.
More information about Carl Zeiss Meditec’s Ophthalmic Data Management Solution as well as
clinical benefits achieved with the latest Cirrus™ HD-OCT technologies will be presented at concurrent educational symposia on Sunday, October 25 from 6:30 – 9:00 pm at the San
Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Meeting delegates can register for these events at
www.meditec.zeiss.com.
ZEISS Toric Solution
This combined solution is designed to increase safety and support workflow throughout the entire IOL lens implantation procedure. Initial diagnostic information can be quickly and accurately obtained using the gold-standard IOL Master® . In the OR, surgical microscopes (including the new OPMI Lumera® 700) ensure excellent clarity and an outstanding red reflex. The workflow of the procedure is supported by the CALLISTO eye® OR management system, which includes the new video supported tool, Z ALIGN, for fast and easy alignment of toric IOLs. The Solution is completed by the AT LISA toric, the only MICS IOL that can simultaneously correct sphere, cylinder and associated presbyopia, as well as the new Z CALC online calculator. (AT LISA products are not approved for sale in the United States.)
ZEISS Refractive Laser Solution
The combination of the MEL 80™ excimer laser, CRS-Master™ custom treatment platform and VisuMax® femtosecond laser offers the most extensive range of refractive surgery applications. The MEL 80 /VisuMax Workstation is currently being evaluated at four Centers of Excellence within the United States. Outcomes of the FLEx all-in-one LASIK procedure performed outside of the United States are expected to be presented during ASCRS 2010.
Dual symposia covering Carl Zeiss Meditec’s cataract and refractive technologies will take place on Monday, October 26 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at the W Hotel in San Francisco. Meeting delegates can register for these events at www.meditec.zeiss.com.
