EnVision Eyes LLC ("EnVision") has successfully designed, developed and launched its
Spec-Tac® external eye speculum in the United States and other countries. The Spec-Tac® external eye speculum – being a disposable, single-use, and hands-free external eye speculum – uniquely fills a need in the ophthalmic industry. The product has various uses and applications, such as eye examinations, photography and retinal imaging, retinal injections, foreign body removal, visual field testing, and other applications. It is estimated that the annual volume of these procedures exceeds 17,000,000 in the U.S. alone.
The Spec-Tac® external eye speculum is manufactured in the United States, and EnVision has applied for design and utility patent applications in the United States. EnVision has obtained CE marking in the European Union.
Spec-Tac® external eye speculum – a completed, working product resulting from years of development. The Spec-Tac speculum was developed to enhance the field of view during eye exams. The Spec-Tac speculum is a universal, single use, disposable product that maintains a patient's eye open without the need for the medical practitioner to hold it open continually with their hand. Moreover, due to the external design of the Spec-Tac speculum, the patient's eye lashes are held back so as to provide the medical practitioner and testing equipment with an unobstructed view of the patient's eye.
Management of eyelids and eyelashes is crucial to many procedures where unobstructed access to the eye is necessary. Maintaining an open eye is difficult for many patients for various reasons, including drooping eyelids and the natural tendency to blink. With the use of medical grade adhesives, the Spec-Tac speculum can easily keep the eyelids and lashes open and out of the way of the imaging pathway.
There are many applications for the Spec-Tac speculum, as numerous ophthalmic tests require patients to keep their eyes open during testing. Some of these procedures include retinal imaging, retinal injections, Optomap imaging, visual fields, corneal topography, foreign body removal, removal of stitches at the slit lamp, contact lens fittings and wave-front mapping.
Having proven its successful product concept, EnVision is currently seeking opportunities to take the company to the next level including through licensing opportunities or outright sale of the company.
