Cutting Resistance Decreased 30%, Compared to Current Knives
Palo Alto, CA (April 3, 2009) – AT Ophthalmic, Inc. announced today the US market introduction of MANI’s new silicone-coated ophthalmic knives at 2009 American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery held in San Francisco on April 3 to 8.
“AT Ophthalmic, Inc. is an authorized US wholesaler/distributor of MANI products, and we are proud to introduce their latest technology. The manufacture has incomparable determination to bring the best products to the surgeons worldwide,” said Aya Tokaji, President of AT Ophthalmic.
“It is a great blade. MANI’s new silicone-coated knife gave smooth and clean incision that I prefer to make” said Dr. Harvey A. Fishman of Palo Alto and Santa Cruz, CA who had been using diamond knives. He is recommending MANI’s new blade to his surgery centers.
According to MANI, their previous knife required about 140 mN of pressure when cutting porcine sclera, but their new silicone-coated knife needed mere 90 mN. Masahiko Saito, Director of MANI’s R&D department said “We have studied most of the disposable blades manufactured by major global brands. The sharpness of MANI’s previous knives surpassed them all, and our new blades are the ones truly compatible to diamond blades.”
Silicone coating is a technology used by some of the major manufactures. MANI achieved its superior sharpness by their crosslapped sharpening technology, and the combination of these edge processing and silicone coating provided the low cutting resistance never achieved by other disposable knives. Their FDA listing was updated in 2009 with this technology.
“MANI has been striving to provide the highest quality products at reasonable cost. It is our pleasure to announce that we can offer these new knives with unprecedented quality” said Teruo Takahashi, Director of Ophthalmic Sales and Marketing of MANI Inc.
