Ophthalmology Times

Intracameral administration of cefuroxime is a safe and effective alternative to subconjunctival delivery of the drug for the treatment of endophthalmitis after cataract surgery, according to research presented by Patrick Yu-Wai-Man, MRCOphth. Dr. Yu-Wai-Man, of the Sunderland Eye Infirmary, Sunderland, United Kingdom, discussed results of a retrospective study of all presumed infectious endophthalmitis cases presenting at the institution from Jan. 1, 2000 to Dec. 31, 2006. He said it was the first study comparing the two delivery methods of cefuroxime.
