Vision Rejuvenation Victoria(TM) is pleased to
announce that they have become the first centre in Western Canada to implant
the recently approved Tetraflex(TM) Presbyopic Intraocular Lens (IOL).
Presbyopia is the most common eye disorder in individuals over the age of
40 whereby the natural lens of the eye loses flexibility, causing an inability
to perform activities at near points (eg. reading, sewing, working on a
computer). The Tetraflex(TM) Presbyopic IOL is a revolutionary technology that
enables patients to regain near vision as well as improve intermediate and
distance vision. "We are very pleased to have Dr. Brierley of Vision
Rejuvenation Victoria working with the Tetraflex lens due to his outstanding
reputation and dedication to patient visual excellence," said Mr. Joseph
Arango, VP of Medical Sales at Coherent-AMT.
The Tetraflex IOL allows patients to regain the ability for near,
intermediate and distance vision which is naturally present in the eye in
early years but diminishes over time. An advanced polyHEMA material allows the
lens to flex while it remains positioned in the eye, enabling the eye muscles
to naturally move the lens forward for near vision activities such as reading,
then relax to move the lens for distance vision. Additionally the lens design
does not induce halo and glare, and allows extreme accuracy through 0.2
diopter increments.
Dr. Lawrence Brierley, Medical Director of Vision Rejuvenation Victoria
states that "The Tetraflex lens represents a landmark in the evolution of
surgical vision correction after age 45. It is the first lens available in
this country capable of mimicking the action of the natural lens, moving if
forward and flexing under the influence of the eye's own focusing muscles. It
therefore provides much more normal vision at variable distances and permits
greater freedom from spectacle use in people over the age of 45."
Results of the Tetraflex lens currently under FDA investigation in the US
as of January 2008 have been very impressive. Clinical data provided by the
FDA study has shown that 100% of patients achieved 20/40 UCVA or better, and
98% of patients were able to read newspaper print.
John Forde, one of the first patients to receive the Tetraflex lens at
Vision Rejuvenation Victoria, states that "For the first time, in as long as I
can recall, I am without glasses. I can read the numbers on my cell phone
without fumbling to put on glasses. I would strongly recommend anyone seeking
to restore eyesight close to youthful levels and who seeks freedom from
wearing glasses to consider the Tetraflex lens."
