This retrospective study of 47 eyes grouped patients into three categories based on their preoperative interocular axial length difference (the difference in the axial length between the operated eye and fellow eye). Those eyes with a difference of –0.2 mm or more were in Group 1, those with a difference between –0.2 and 0.2 mm were in Group 2, and those with a difference –0.2 mm or less were in Group 3.
After surgery, the operate eyes with the shorter axial lengths showed the greatest postoperative axial length growth (mean 3.7 mm for Group 1 compared to 2.5 mm for Group 3). This suggests a trend for the axial length in operated eyes to adjust to meet the fellow eye.
