Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute Opens Comprehensive Care Center for Zika Virus

Johns Hopkins Medicine recently opened the new Johns Hopkins Zika Center through its Wilmer Eye Institute as a comprehensive, hospital-based center dedicated to the treatment and research of Zika virus.

Through its leading role in the center, the Wilmer Eye Institute and its faculty members will reportedly be able to diagnose and, in many cases, treat eye diseases associated with Zika virus, including cataracts and other vision issues, with state-of-the-art, specialized technology.

The Center will reportedly treat pregnant women and newborn babies, as well as men and women of all ages with the mosquito-borne and sexually transmitted virus. The Center will focus not only on diagnosis and treatment of infected individuals, but also on the assessment of long-term effects, as well as new approaches to prevention and treatment of Zika virus infection.
