Visiometrics launches the HD Analyzer- A next generation Optical Quality Analysis System

05 September 2012 -- Barcelona, Spain. Visiometrics will launch the next generation of its Optical Quality Analysis System (OQAS), the HD Analyzer™*, at the upcoming meeting of the European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons in Milan (8-12 September 2012).

The HD Analyzer™ is a unique diagnostic system that allows for an objective analysis of optical quality. The system provides a measure of light scatter, which is caused by a variation of the refractive index, corneal disease or imperfections on the ocular surface, which can lead to degradation in image quality. Light scatter is not measurable using traditional wavefront aberrometry and presents a diagnostic challenge that only the HD Analyzer is currently able to answer.

“With greater frequency, ophthalmologists are now looking beyond traditional means of assessing vision using standard visual acuity charts to better understand their patients’ vision,” said Jan Bonel, Visiometrics CEO. “Corneal topography, wavefront aberrometry and other devices are employed, but the results are often not easy to interpret, or can be misleading.”

Unique Technology

Employing double-pass retinal imaging, the HD Analyzer uses a punctual light source that is imaged on the retina. The size and shape of the light are analyzed by the system in order to determine the higher order aberrations and scattered light. The system provides users with the Point Spread Function (PSF), Objective Scattering Index (OSI), as well as the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF).

The HD Analyzer is versatile and can be used for:

  • Diagnosing and monitoring the evolution over time of pathologies or refractive disorders.

  • Evaluation of the level of light scatter (OSI) for the early detection of cataract and the determination of its degree of maturity.

  • Comparing pre and post cataract and refractive surgery measurements.

  • Precise measurement of MTF (Modulation Transfer Function), which is overestimated by aberrometers when scattering exists, as in cataract patients.

  • Evaluation of tear film quality

  • Objective measurement of the amplitude of accommodation and pseudoaccommodation.

Next Generation Enhancements

Maintaining the core strengths of the OQAS 1 and 2, the new HD Analyzer is enhanced technologically and ergonomically. The speed of measurement is improved significantly, while the software advancements allow for results to be presented using images.

Following the official debut of the HD Analyzer at the ESCRS (Visiometrics’ Booth -- P342), the system will be commercially available later in September through medeuronet, Visiometrics exclusive European partner.
