Excimer Lasers for Ophthalmology Surgery

An Excimer Laser, sometimes called an Exciplex Laser, is a type of ultraviolet laser. This laser uses noble gases and reactive gases to disrupt the molecular bonds of organic surface tissue. This type of laser is different because instead of burning and altering tissue with heat, an Excimer Laser can remove incredibly minute layers or pieces of tissue by disintegration without risking damaging surrounding tissue. This application is useful for eye surgeries like LASIK. This helps with patient recovery time, benefiting an Ophthalmology practice.

There are multiple types of Excimer Lasers; Slit Scanning lasers, Spot Scanning Lasers and Wave-Front Scanning lasers. Depending on which procedure a patient is having done, one Excimer laser might perform that surgery better over another.
