- Myositis
- Thyroid Eye Disease
- Orbital Cellulitis
- Orbital Fracture
Correct Answer: Thyroid Eye Disease
The typical CT scan appearance of a patient with thyroid eye disease will show enlarged extraocular muscles in a fusiform pattern which spares the muscle tendons. Myositis, on the other hand, will show muscle enlargement involving the muscle tendons. Orbital cellulitis will most likely be associated with an opacified sinus. This scan shows a pristine ethmoid sinus. Orbital fractures are best evaluated with bony windows and a break in the bone will be seen.
