The Aladdin Biometer and Corneal Topographer HW3.0 obtains 510(k) clearance in the US.
OAKLAND, NJ, February 28, 2017 - Topcon Medical Systems (TMS) of Oakland, NJ is pleased to announce that the ALADDIN Biometer with Corneal Topographer HW3.0 has obtained FDA clearance for distribution in the United States, (K160327).
This new version of the already popular Aladdin Biometer with Corneal Topography incorporates Lens Thickness, Central Pachymetry and a Generic Toric IOL Calculator to an already robust list of innovative features that expand its capabilities.
One of the main advantages of the Aladdin is the built-in fully featured corneal topographer, a function that saves time and adds accuracy to the IOL calculation measurements. An added feature of the HW3.0 is the use of low coherence interferometry to perform anterior chamber depth (ACD) measurements for a more precise reading. It also features Axial Length (AL), Lens Thickness (LT), Central Corneal Thickness or Pachymetry (CCT), pupillometry and white to white measurement. The incorporated IOL calculation formulae include five of the most widely used IOL calculation formulae. The Abulafia-Koch astigmatism cylinder correction and the Barrett Formula Suite are included in the Aladdin firmware. The Barrett formula was developed by Dr. Graham D. Barrett in 2013 and takes into account the posterior cornea considering the lens position for each individual patient instead of calculating IOL power by estimating lens thickness based on patient’s age. The Barrett formula can also be used to calculate IOL power on eyes that had prior refractive surgery performed.
The ALADDIN was developed with three key points in mind:
Speed: Point and shoot acquisition - All necessary measurements are taken in under 5 seconds.
Accuracy: Low Coherence Interferometry Technology provides accurate axial length, Lens Thickness and Central Corneal Thickness information for precise determination of IOL power. When measuring for toric IOL, Axis, Surgically Induced Astigmatism (SIA) and Incision location (IL) are also displayed.
Ease of use: New color coded mires and the incorporation of a status bar showing the progression of the measurements further simplify its use. The operator is only 3 clicks away from printing the IOL report. The 10.1 inch color touchscreen monitor with its wide angle of view is very responsive and comfortable to use.
