Addition Technology

Des Plaines, Illinois, February 15, 2010 – Addition Technology, Inc., the maker of AlphaSphere™ orbital implant, AlphaCor™ artificial cornea and Intacs® corneal implants announced today the addition of a custom designed AlphaSphere suture to be included with each AlphaSphere unit.

Based on expert suggestions from leading oculoplastic surgeons “The suture design conveniently enters ocular muscle tissue and facilitates an easy pass through of the AlphaSphere surface for quick and efficient suturing” stated Art Brodie, executive vice president, business development. Included with each AlphaSphere, the suture specifications include: a taper point, 12mm, ½ circle needle design with PGA, 45cm suture in a double-armed configuration.

The AlphaSphere orbital implant, a new entry into the oculoplasty market, requires no pre-surgical preparation and provides direct suturing and fibrovascularization of the anterior surface, where as the posterior section resists fibrovascularization. Its soft, pliable construction and light weight is ideal for patient comfort. It is made from Poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) PHEMA, a proven bio-material formulation that has performed for over 10 years in the AlphaCor artificial cornea product. AlphaSphere is fully hyrdrated, packed in sterile water and is available in a range of seven sizes (16-22mm) with 1.0mm increments. Surgeons interested in AlphaSphere are encouraged to contact Addition Technology to receive a complimentary device sample and suture sample to practice with before their next case by emailing [email protected] or by calling (866-658-2709).
