New Report Shows Americans Not Protecting Their Eyes From the Sun

A new report from The Vision Council shows that despite being concerned about the sun potentially harming their eyes, only 31 percent of Americans actually protect their eyes with sunglasses or other UV-protective eyewear every time they go outside.

The survey of more than 10,000 adults found 39 percent of Americans only wear sunglasses if they plan to be outside for more than two hours, only 44 percent wear sunglasses at the beach, and only 14 percent are likely to wear them while watching an outdoor sporting event. Additionally, parents are more likely to wear sunglasses (59 percent) than their children (29 percent), and millennials are the least likely to wear sunglasses — 55 percent of those in their 20s never, rarely or only sometimes wear sunglasses.
