JoAnn A. Giaconi, M.D.
JoAnn A. Giaconi, M.D., is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA. She received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University, medical degree from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, and residency training at Stanford University Hospitals. She completed two fellowships. One in cornea and external diseases at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and a second in glaucoma at the Jules Stein Eye Institute. She spends her time in the clinical care of patients, teaching residents cataract and glaucoma surgery, in addition to academic activities. Her research interests include the interaction of glaucoma and the corneal endothelium and how nutrition may be involved with glaucoma pathogenesis. She is a member of a number of professional organizations, lectures, and has authored a number of peer-reviewed journal articles, as well as textbook chapters.
