Specular microscopy to assess the health (polymegathism and pleomorphism) and number of endothelial cells (cells/mm) in the cornea is becoming more routine. Non-contact specular microscopes have the advantage of allowing corneal evaluation without making contact with the ocular surface obviating the need for topical anesthetics.
